An annual tradition, the Juried Art Show and Sale embraces the arts and savors the creativity of many talented artists. The 29th Annual Juried Art Show and Sale happens at the Monmouth Museum, located on the Brookdale Community College campus in Lincroft, NJ.
The Monmouth County Arts Council brings a couple of fresh new ideas to its Annual Juried Art Show for 2008 by implementing a 'Peoples Choice Award' and a new digital entry format for the 29th Annual Juried Art show. To make the transition to digital easier and offer continuing education to artists in the Monmouth County area, the MCAC with the Monmouth Museum, SCAN Learning Center, the Belmar Arts Council and the Guild of Creative Art will offer workshops on 'going digital'. The workshops will have demonstrations, computer labs, information, resources and digitizing services.
"Having a 'Peoples Choice Award' is a fun way to actively engage the viewing public in the Juried Art Show and move awards beyond the 'formal juror' category" says Terri Thomas Community Arts Director for MCAC. "With regard to the digital entry format there are a variety of reasons for changing the application process for our Juried Art show. Implementing a digital entry and judging format will allow artists from beyond Monmouth County to enter the Juried Art show, expanding the show and setting it apart from the many varied and wonderful juried art shows that are currently offered in Monmouth County".
"In addition it will enable MCAC to have highly qualified national jurors from beyond the NJ and Tri-State area in a cost effective way, who may not be able to travel to New Jersey to do a "by the piece" jurying process, and it will bring MCAC in line with most national juried art shows, fellowship and grant applications that now use the digital entry process.
The MCAC's show has grown in stature over the years and often receives upwards of 400 pieces of art for jurying. The volume of artwork received for 'by the piece' jurying is becoming a logistical issue as far as space, receiving, pick-up, staff and volunteer time, liability in handling artwork and MCAC's capacity to efficiently process all the entries. We hope that the digital entry format will alleviate some of these logistical difficulties".
Karin Jervert Communications Director for MCAC adds that "Having digital images of the artwork on hand will make publicity of the winning and accepted artists and their artwork easier and more accessible for the media, enhancing publicity for the artists and the juried art show."
