2008 GRANT AWARDS

MCAC grant categories include:
General Operating Support (GOS) for arts organizations, General Program Support (GPS) for other types of non-profit organizations that have significant arts programs, Special Project Support (SP) for all types of non-profit organizations, and Technical Assistance (TA).

Local Arts Grant Program Awards for Fiscal Year 2008 Through the New Jersey State Council on the Arts

The Arcadian Chorale, Matawan - GOS $4,490
Arcadian Chorale will expand their chorale concerts plus outreach programs, arts education throughout Monmouth County and beyond. They will advance the professionalism and excellence of the Chorale with more challenging repertory and cross organizational collaboration.

Arc of Monmouth County, Freehold - SP $1000
Arc of Monmouth County will support Arc Resources Unlimited, a  gallery in the Freehold Mall to exhibit, promote and sell artwork created by children and adults with disabilities and special needs.

The Art Alliance of Monmouth County, Red Bank GOS $1,111
The Art Alliance of Monmouth County, celebrates its 30th year of promoting the visual arts by nurturing artists and providing a professional venue for their work at their Red Bank Gallery.  Special outreach to diversify membership and audience. 

Ballet Company of the Performing Arts, Red Bank GOS $8,514
Ballet Company of the Performing Arts Ensemble brings ballet and modern dancers with young dancers to achieve the highest levels of excellence and inclusion.  Auditions are free and open to the public.  Outreach programs are available for people with disabilities.  

Belmar Arts Council, Belmar - GOS $3,702
Belmar Arts Council improves the quality of life for Belmar's residents and visitors through the arts by holding exhibitions, concerts, workshops and other arts events to support artists and enrich the community.

Brookdale Big Band, Lincroft - SP $1,000
Brookdale Big Band will hold three concerts in 2008 involving New Jersey performing artists.  The Summer Music Series is now beginning its ninth season.  The concerts will include a swing band, Dixieland and the Brookdale Singers accompanied by Art Deco, Brookdale’s resident jazz group.   

Center for Holocaust Studies, Lincroft - SP $1,000
Center for Holocaust Studies will bring Dear Esther, a theatrical performance on the true life story of NJ resident Esther Terner Raab who escaped from the Sobibor Death Camp during the Holocaust.

Center Players, Freehold - GOS $9,995
Center Players runs Center Playhouse, a 49 seat community theatre that holds auditions, rehearsals, meetings, outreach events and performances in downtown Freehold, contributing to the economic vitality of the town.

Company Of Dance Arts, Red Bank - GOS $11,106
Company of Dance Arts provides children and teens with performance opportunities in classical ballet and other forms of dance that meet professional standards.  The 2008 season will include The Nutcracker and Snow White cultivating an appreciation of dance to people of diverse backgrounds of all ages. 

Coalition for Haitian-Empowerment, Asbury Park - SP $1,388
Coalition for Haitian-Empowerment will hold Haitian Flag Day 2008, a major presentation of Haitian culture – art, textiles, artifacts, dance, drama, poetry, music and film, as well as food ways to the general public of Asbury Park and surrounding communities.  The Haitian Flag Day Celebration represents a model of promoting cultural diversity and diversifying cultural participation through program marketing and outreach.  

Freehold Latino Festival, Asbury Park - SP $2,221
The Freehold Latino Festival held under the Hispanic Affairs & Resource Center of Monmouth County, will bring greater understanding of the rich cultural diversity of the Latino Population to the residents of Monmouth County.  Artistic activities are encouraged to immerse the community in the Latino cultural experience through dance, music and food.

Garden State Film Festival, Asbury Park - SP $14,808
Garden State Film Festival promotes the cinematic arts and the mediums of film, video and animation in Monmouth County and greater NJ. The public will benefit by having access to various screenings and educational programs on all aspects of filmmaking.  They partner with other nonprofits on outreach programs. 

Guild of Creative Art, Shrewsbury - GOS $2,197
Guild of Creative Art is a source of artistic experience for members and the general public.  They will expand their teaching and exhibitions to attract new members, patrons and other participants in the visual arts

Heart of New Jersey Chorus, Morganville - GOS $1,944
Heart of New Jersey Chorus educates chorus members in the art of barbershop harmony and brings performances to assisted living facilities and other underserved communities. They work to improve their craft and expand outreach.

Holmdel Township Dept. of Parks & Recreation, Bayonet Farm Advisory Committee, Holmdel - SP $1,000
Holmdel Township Dept. of Parks & Recreation, Bayonet Farm Advisory Committee will hold the Fifth Annual Bayonet Farm Arts & Music Festival which provides a venue for artists, sculptors, potters and musicians to share their work and expertise.  Attendees are invited to paint a community mural, paint their own picture, form a clay model or listen to a diverse set of musical performances. 

Jazz Arts Project, Inc., Red Bank - SP $5,553
Jazz Arts Project, Inc. will produce the Legends and Lions in Jazz series that brings world class legendary jazz artists including NEA Jazz Masters, to Red Bank and Asbury Park in an informal lecture/master class setting followed by an evening concert presentation.  Each master class will include student musicians.  

Jewish Community Center of Monmouth County, Deal Park - GPS $3,702
Jewish Community Center of Monmouth County, Axelrod Performing Arts Center, provides high quality cultural arts programming for all ages with free or lower priced tickets for underserved individuals

Liberty Oak Chorus, Freehold - GOS $2,221
Liberty Oak Chorus supports the performance and vocal skills of chorus members.  Through the sharpening of vocal presentation and performance, the chorus can achieve more popular access to public venues and events in Monmouth County.  They convey the unique nature of the Barbershop style Liberty Oak Chorus presents.

Manalapan Arts Council, Manalapan - GPS $2,369
The newly formed Manalapan Arts Council, Manalapan Township supports a wide variety of multi-disciplinary arts programs for the residents of Manalapan and the wider community of Western Monmouth County

Middletown Twp Cultural & Arts Council, Middletown - GOS $7,930
Middletown Township Cultural & Arts Council provides free and affordable arts activities, events and programs designed to encourage community involvement in the arts.  They offer arts programs specifically designed for individuals with disabilities and residents of all ages and abilities.

Monmouth Civic Chorus, Red Bank - GOS $15,270
Monmouth Civic Chorus performs choral works by Baroque, Classical, Romantic and contemporary composers with professional orchestra and soloists, including masterworks, rarely heard choral treasures and recent compositions.

Monmouth Conservatory of Music, Red Bank - GOS $6,441
Monmouth Conservatory of Music provides quality music education and performance opportunities for students of all ages. The Conservatory offers a high level of teaching and performance and promotes music as an art form.

Monmouth Festival of the Arts, Tinton Falls - SP $3,702
Monmouth Festival of the Arts hold the only professionally designed, volunteer managed, gallery-style art exhibition and sale with over 225 juried artists. The Festival includes children's workshops, art demonstrations, lectures, docent led tours, an educator's symposium, student art competition, workshops and tours for students.

Monmouth Symphony Orchestra, Red Bank - GOS $1,481
Monmouth Symphony Orchestra makes quality live classical music more accessible to the residents of Monmouth County and encourages more participation in the musical arts by students and adults.

New Jersey State Youth Orchestra, Red Bank - GOS $5,553
New Jersey State Youth Orchestra has four orchestras as well as educational, community service and enrichment programs.  Students learn teamwork, self-discipline and individual expression contributing to success in school, work and life.  Members benefit the community through public performance, outreach and service.

Phoenix Productions, Red Bank - GOS $4,442
Phoenix Productions provides high quality theatrical experiences for NJ artists and audiences that are affordable and accessible.  They present 4 musical theater presentations at the Count Basie Theatre each year. 

Red Bank Rivercenter's StreetLife, Red Bank - SP $4,901
Red Bank Rivercenter’s StreetLife is a free program that brings the artists to the community.  StreetLife has benefited Red Bank businesses by stimulating the evening economy showing that the arts and economic development go hand in hand. 

Shrewsbury Chorale, Shrewsbury - GOS $3,597
Shrewsbury Chorale provides residents of Monmouth County with the opportunity to experience the high quality vocal ensemble music as participants or as audience members.  They will continue with outreach to the community and to students. 

Starburst Productions, First Avenue Playhouse, Atlantic Highlands - GOS $4,590
Starburst Productions, First Avenue Playhouse entertains and educates people 2 -102 years of age in the Bayshore area while providing a venue for local actors, directors and stage crew to share and develop their talents.  They produce high quality theater for adults, puppet theater for children in a small theater setting.

Zeybrah, Long Branch - SP $1,851

Zeybrah holds the Oceans of Rhythm Festival, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, family event combining music, African and Caribbean Dance, drumming, music and drama featuring local and international talent, children and adults in Long Branch.

6 Minigrants of $500 are available for Fiscal Year 2008
